Sushmita Sen To Play A Transgender Activist Gauri Sawant’s Role In Upcoming Web Series Set To Go On Floors In November End


Sushmita Sen, the winner of the Miss Universe 1994 pageant, is well-known for songs like Sajan Tumse Pyar, Akela Dil, Yeh Hawaaein, Ek Ladki Chaiye. Her films include Aankhen in 2002, Main Hoon Na in 2004 and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya in 2005. She starred in a drama series named Aarya and won Best Actress at the Filmfare OTT Awards for it.

According to reports, she has signed a web series which will broadcast on Voot Select, where she will play transgender activist Gauri Sawant. It will showcase the story of Gauri Sawant and her growth in the community. 

“Sushmita loved this character of Gauri, who is a courageous, warm-hearted, strong-willed woman fighting against all odds for the transgender community of India,” PeepingMoon report said. The story tells a crucial relationship with her adopted child named Gayatri.

The six-episode drama will have numerous aspects of Sawant’s life, the challenges she faced, the journey and her kind bond with her daughter. It’s expected to start shooting in November end. She will then begin the third season of Aarya early next year.

Gauri Sawant founded an NGO called “Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust” in 2000. It gives counselling to transgender people and promotes safe sex. It will be produced by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartik D Nishandar under Global Sports Entertainment and Media Solutions.
