RRR, released on March 24, is an action-drama film starring Ram Charan, N.T. Rama Rao, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris. It’s directed by SS Rajamouli and has been reportedly made with a budget of 550 crores. Its song ‘Naatu Naatu’ and VFX in it got prominence from moviegoers.

Recently, India announced a Gujarati movie named Chhelo Shaw (titled The Last Film Show in English) directed by Pan Nalin, as its official Oscar entry and was decided by the Film Federation of India’s (FFI). Many expressed displeasure at the nod given to it and over snubbing RRR, which performed well at the Box-Office.

However, there is an update on it that RRR has officially sent their nomination for the Oscars in 14 categories, giving a relief to the film’s fans as well. Rajamouli was quite hopeful to submit the film for it after getting support from various people in industry, including fans. Team plans to campaign independently for Oscar awards.

The categories for nomination include Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Motion Picture, Best Actor (Jr NTR and Ram Charan), Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt). Naatu Naatu has been nominated for Best Original Song.

MM Keeravani’s name has been submitted by the makers for Best Original Score. Others are Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Sound, Best Film Editing and Best Makeup & Hairstyling.

“We are honoured that RRR’s overwhelming success represented Indian Cinema on the global stage by creating milestones at the worldwide box-ffice and uniting film buffs across the world by transcending linguistic and clutural barriers,” RRR makers said in an official statement.

“Were grateful to each and every one who loved our film and cheered us over the past few months. You made the journey possible. We applied to The Academy for Oscars consideration in general category. We wish our RRR family the best and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for making this possible. Here’s to continuing to win hearts and entertain audiences worldwide,” it added.

Speaking of India’s Oscars history, three films have been nominated for Best International Feature, namely Mother India (1957), Salaam Bombay! (1988) and Lagaan (2001); however, no one has triumphed. Meanwhile, the Oscars event will be held on March 12, 2023, in Los Angeles.
