Bollywood is going through its darkest period ever. None of the movies are doing well at the box office since the cancel culture is so pervasive. In reality, there is no or significantly less foot traffic at the theatres. Even a South star like Vijay Deverakonda tried his hand at Bollywood but failed miserably. Shamshera, Laal Singh Chaddha, and Raksha Bandhan are just a few more well-known holidays that suffered the same fate. To find out what Javed Akhtar thinks about the circumstance, scroll down.
What’s more concerning is that internet users boycott movies because of the actors who appear in them rather than because of anything in the movies that offends them. Due to Aamir Khan’s earlier remarks about leaving India, his appearance was cancelled. Due to their statement that viewers could disregard their films if they don’t like them, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt received backlash on social media.
Javed Akhtar believes that these announcements of cancelled cultures don’t actually have any effect. In fact, he believes that the content determines whether or not people will attend a theatre. He did, however, add that the Boycott tendencies are only a fleeting fad.
Javed Akhtar told ETimes, “It is a passing phase. It is very evident that it doesn’t work. If the film is good and is appreciated by the audience, it will work. If it is not good and not appreciated by the audience, it won’t work. I don’t think this kind of announcement of cancel culture and boycott works at all.”
