Female Actress-Centric Films Tank At Box Office Except Those Starring Alia Bhatt

In the past this year, we saw various films starring female actresses as lead roles, with an emphasis on them. It’s indeed great to see their representation and attempts in breaking stereotypes in the society. Many released but didn’t perform well at box office except a few starring Alia Bhatt.

Dhaakad, starring Kangana Ranaut, released in 2022, is an action-thriller based on capturing a trafficker, directed by Razneesh Ghai. It collected Rs 2.58 cr nett, making a terrible run at the Box-office. Helmed by Suresh Triveni, Jalsa, stars Vidya Balan, which failed with Rs 4.97 cr as collection for two weeks. It was reportedly made with a budget of Rs 15 cr.

Another film Shaabash Mithu stars Taapsee Pannu which was made with a budget of Rs 48 crore and released on July 15, 2022. It didn’t perform well at the Box-office, collecting just Rs 2.89 cr. It showcases the setbacks, highs and lows, and moments of euphoria of Mithali’s life. Swara Bhaskar starrer “Jahaan Chaar Yaar” recently released also was flop.

However, Alia Bhatt’s movies stood out, making her shine. Her starrer ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, released on February 25, 2022, is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It received Rs 129.10 cr at the Box-office, making it the fourth-highest grossing Hindi film this year. Brahmastra starting Alia rocked the box-office, with Rs 256.25 crores nett as collection.

Upcoming movies like Katrina’s ‘Phone Bhoot’, Mili starring Janhvi Kapoor are not expected to do perform well at the Box-office, including Sonakshi starrer ‘Double XL’. These three films are set to hit the big screen on November 4, 2022.
