What’s the best compliment you have got so far?
People have appreciated the whole film, not any one department. They also say that Darlings doesn’t seem like a first directorial film by me.
How was your perception about Shah Rukh Khan before coming to the industry and when he produces your first film?
Before coming in the industry, I didn’t know Shah Rukh other than a big star and a big actor, but when you meet him, he makes it very easy. He makes it feel very smooth, and I understood why people love him so much when I met him, because he is very lovable and respectful.
How did you feel when you come to know that Superstar Shah Rukh Khan is going to produce your first film?
It’s a dream come true! We went to Red Chillies and I narrated the script to Shah Rukh and he loved it, and that’s why he decided to produce it. He is amazing!
Which is your favourite scene in Darlings and for which scene you feel like that it could have been done better?
Right now I don’t feel like for any scene that it could have been done better, because if we see the film as a whole then there are a lot of things that go into making a film apart from shooting, be it sound, editing, sound design, there is so much that goes into it that suits perfect for that time. I think there is no film that is perfect but that is a film you want to make, there is a story you want to tell in a particular way.
Coming onto the favourite scene, I like the mother-daughter scene in the end where they both look in the mirror and the whole thing comes together and they are looking at each other. In that scene, both of them looked healed, free and forgiving each other.
Darlings is a black comedy-drama film dealing with domestic violence, co-written and directed by Jasmeet K. Reen, in her directorial debut, from a screenplay by Parveez Sheikh, and produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt (in her debut production), and Gaurav Verma under the banners Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew in the lead roles.
